Red Saffron is a home-based bakery business bringing you freshly prepared baked goods and pastries, handcrafted from the freshest and finest ingredients. They are only available at the Wilmette French Market, but may be pre-ordered, online, in limited quantities.
Red Saffron is owned and operated by Susan Glaeser Chen. Although Susan is a civil engineer, she has always loved to cook and bake for her friends and family, and with their encouragement, she pursued her interests in cooking. While still working as an engineer, Susan completed the culinary program at Kendall College, and then worked in the pastry kitchen at Trio Restaurant, in Evanston for two years. Wanting to open a high quality prepared food and pastry shop, specializing in foods in the styles of Asian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern cuisines, she saw one ingredient that linked these cuisines together was saffron. Thus, the concept of Red Saffron was conceived. While saffron is a unique and exquisite spice, red saffron is considered to be the highest quality. In 2013, the opportunity presented itself for Susan to start the business that she had been moving toward for years.
